Porn News: Award Winners

If you have any decent amount of interest in the adult industry (and haven’t been living under a rock or in a cave in Afghanistan ) you know that the 2006 AVN (porn) Awards were held this past Saturday in Vegas (where else?).

I did a little prognostic preview on the awards show more than a month ago, so I’ll try to summarize how well I did in that respect. I shall do my best to conveniently forget most of the predictions that I completely had no clue on. :) As it is, this will probably be the last time I do all that predicting business. I’ll just stick to saying who I hope wins.

Pirates director Joone and New Devil in Miss Jones director Paul Thomas won in each of their directorial categories - for Video and Film, respectively - as I thought they would.

Both Best DVD Menus and Best DVD Extras awards went to Camp Cuddly Pines Powertool Massacre , which I’ve said before that I have no problem with whatsoever.

Best Actress in a Film to Savanna Sampson? I’ve said before that I think she’s a very good sexual performer but I didn’t think she deserved a nomination in this category, much less a win. However, she did take up the role of probably the single most famous character ever in porndom (Miss Jones)...

Best All-Girl Scene went to the one with Jenna Jameson and Sampson in New Devil . It’s a very good scene (like I said, Sampson is a damn good performer) so I don’t have that big a quarrel with the choice. I thought a scene between Jameson and Tawny Roberts in Last Girl Standing was slightly better. But again the “Miss Jones” title carries a lot of weight, all other things being equal.

(My Completely Biased Fan Moment: I’m glad Katja Kassin won something - for Best Solo Sex Scene in Anal Showdown . I didn’t even see this particular performance, but I love her: her ass is out of this world! Moving on...)

Jameson won Best Cross-Over Star, ho-hum. Like I said before, they should just name the award after her and call it a day.

Best Retail Website for Rentals went to WantedList.com. I’d comment on that, but I have a history with the site and I don’t have anything really positive to say about them...

I predicted that the Best Renting Title and the Best Selling Title of the year would each go to one of the two major productions (Pirates and New Devil ). Shame on me for not realizing that that award encompasses rentals and sales (respectively) for a whole calendar year. Both Pirates and New Devil came out in late Summer / early Autumn.

So after all that went wrong with my picks for the show, what is the moral of the AVN awards? Much like with the adult performers’ wardrobes at the event, you just never know how the awards presentations are going to go.
