Donation Plea

This posting is not so much an informative entry but a plea to those who have a bona fide interest in the adult industry. Let me just start off by saying that I do not work for the FSC nor am I even a member. But please give a little to the Free Speech Coalition: they’re currently fighting the onerous new provisions of Statute 2257.

The FSC has been waging their fight since the latter half of June when the new regulations of the statute came into effect, but I bring this point up now in light of two events:

1. The recent announcement of that organization that they’re currently in their second phase of fundraising efforts to combat their mounting court costs and legal fees.
2. The willingness on the part of the primary backer of the Children’s Safety Act of 2005 to compromise on a certain section of his pending bill. The section in question would subject the mainstream movie industry to the same record-keeping requirements imposed on adult content producers.

In case you didn’t know (or follow up its definition in the above link), Title 18 Statute 2257 of the U.S. Code requires that certain documentation verifying the age and identity of all individuals involved in sexually explicit pornographic (up until now at least) depictions exist and always be on hand for inspection.

I’m not going to reiterate the reasons why the application of 2257 - not necessarily the theory behind it - is not all it’s cracked up to be as far as the adult industry is concerned (I‘ve commented extensively on 2257 in the past). Moreover, if you read the above mentioned article, you’ll see why it’s not such a good idea for the mainstream film industry either. The bottom-line is 2257, as it currently stands, must be challenged.

So, if you can spare a couple of shekels, throw ‘em the FSC’s way. After all, they are fighting not only for the rights of those that produce sexuality, but also for the First Amendment rights of the average Joe to view it.
